Crackd joins the Alliance bringing plantbased eggs to the policy table

8th May , 2024

The innovative “made not laid” company that makes the UK’s first ever liquid plant-based egg substitute has become the latest member of the Plant-based Food Alliance UK (PBFA).

Crackd produces its game-changing egg product using pea protein to allow easy substitution of chicken eggs in both meals and baking. The bottled product, which can be used to make anything from scrambled eggs to pancakes, quiches and waffles, is available in an ever growing number of stores across the UK.

“We are delighted to welcome the innovative Crackd to the ranks of the Alliance, ensuring that their needs and concerns will be heard in front of policymakers when matters related to plant-based food are discussed,” Marisa Heath, PBFA CEO, said.

“The UK plant-based market is booming and will continue to do so. But many companies find it impossible on their own to influence major policy in their favour. The Alliance actively works alongside policymakers to ensure that plant-based companies are heard and actively supported,” Heath said.

The UK Government’s advisor on climate change, the Climate Change Committee, has recommended making plant-based food “attractive, accessible and affordable”.

However, work needs to be done to amplify that message so that supporting policies and legislation bring about the necessary changes to promote the production, research, export and public procurement of plant-based food. It is here where the Alliance focuses much of its attention and its growing membership allows it to increase its work.

Rik Roberts from Crackd said: “We are delighted to be accepted as members of the Alliance and look forward to working with other members on ensuring that plant-based foods get the recognition and support from Government that they deserve.”
